Tamura sensei teaching at the IAF seminar in Stockholm 2002

The sad news of Nobuyoshi Tamuras passing was spread around the world yesterday. Tamura sensei reached the age of 77 before he lost the battle against cancer on the night of July 9th.

Tamura sensei has been pivotal for the development of aikido and the global growth of the art. He was also important in the establishment of aikido in Sweden. Tamura sensei visited us the first time 1965 and has been a regular guest since then.

Nobuyoshi Tamura was born in Osaka in 1933 and entered Hombu dojo as uchi-deshi in 1953 at the age of 20. He appears as uke for the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba, in several films. In 1964 he was sent to Marseilles in France to teach Aikido.

For several years Tamora sensei served the International Aikido Federation as a member of the Senior Council. The world of aikido will always be grateful for Tamura senseis efforts.

Personally I will remember his warm smile and happy spirit. When Tamura sensei was around laughter was always close at hand. Thank you for everything Tamura sensei • 田村先生、ありがとうございました。

    Hi Jöran,
    Thank you for this opportunity.
Yes, Tamura Sensei has passed away but he has left a lot behind him. He was a man of a time and culture that is never more going to be! Times have changed so has man and his ways. His times were of value, moral and living spirituality. Tamura Sensei has taken all those treasures along with him and that was good and inspiring for all those that came in contact with.
Thank you for your time Tamura Sensei and rest in peace.
